Houston Johnson, Shadren Turner score at I-35 Speedway

Winston, MO —  One hundred and five (105) cars checked in for the CSI Overhead Door Bud Wilson Memorial as the fans, drivers and track crew got together to celebrate the life of another dirt track legend that we lost to soon. Track personnel gave the drivers a great track and in turn the drivers put on a great show for the fans that concluded just before 10:30pm.

The E-Mods started us out for feature racing as the points leader Adam Dunwoodie would move from the tenth starting spot to claim his twelfth win of the season at I-35. Dunwoodie wouldn’t get the win easy as he had to wrestle the lead away from Blake Hayes. Hayes would finish second, Aaron Jones would garner another podium finish with a third place showing, Michael Hascall continued his strong points season finishing fourth and Tony Layne finished fifth.

Pure Stock points leader Jeffrey Sears joined the double-digit win plateau as he picked up his tenth win at I-35 Speedway. Sears had a race to remember as he battled with Bobby Key and Jakub Hisel for the victory. You could throw a blanket over the top three at any time in this race. Key would lead most of the race, but Sears would beat him to the transponder loop by 0.025 to secure the win. Key would finish second with Jakub Hisel right on their bumpers for third, rookie Issac Dixon would have his best finish of the season in fourth and another good run for Ava Dixon finishing fifth.

Ron Lefholz picked up his third win of 2023 in the Open Vintage Series as he held off Lonnie Farley, Mike Lefholz, Allen Guthrie and David Baldwin.

Midwest Limited Late Model points leader Houston Johnson captured his first win on the night and his seventh in the MLLM class. Tommy Cordray, a feature winner on the season as well would finish second, Tucker Cox finished third, Michael King was fourth and Jackson Brawner was fifth.

After leading the USRA B-Mod national points for much of the season Shadren Turner would find himself in second place last week. Coming into Saturday night at I-35 Speedway Turner had once again claimed the top points position by just three points. Turner would go on to pick up his eighth victory at I-35, his twenty second overall in USRA competition. Defending track champion Tyler Cadwallader put the pressure on but would finish second, Michael Taylor III would finally have a little luck on his side as he came home third, current track points leader Corey Myers finished fourth with newcomer Travis Peterson in fifth.

The Medieval USRA Stock Car points leader at I-35 Speedway Jeff Dixon would motor to his third win of 2023 as he had to hold off a stout field of cars to visit McCarthy Autogroup Victory Lane. Doug Keller would put the pressure on until he slipped a little bit high out of turn four on the final lap as he came home second. Randy Smith Jr, a regular on Bud Wilson Memorial night every season finished third followed by Brandon Dixon and Anthony Robertson who would continue their stellar season finishing fourth and fifth.

Houston Johnson had to slip past a couple of Hibners to claim his fourth USRA Modified feature win of the season and claiming his second win on the night. Lee Hibner led from the drop of the green flag as his son Tyler Hibner, the track points leader and an eleven-time feature winner gave chase. Lap after lap Houston Johnson would creep up to the back bumper of the Hibners before eventually making the pass for the lead and taking home the win. Lee Hibner finished second, Tyler Hibner was third. Richard Layne and Brad Johnson would battle each other as they had great runs, finishing fourth and fifth.

Sport Compact points leader Brad Mick would also join the double-digit win club winning for the tenth time this season. Two-time feature winner Harold Robb Jr would finish second, Brad Aleshire was third, Jonnathon Hartman came home fourth and opening night and last week’s feature winner Elijah Hoyt was fifth.

Jr Sport Compact points leader Payton Hanes claimed her sixth victory of the season as she motored around the famed track to claim victory. Sydni McLaughlin would finish second in her first race ever followed by Betty Wright, Autumn Manley, Katelynn Fleming and Maddy Barr.

Case Hood claimed victory in the T&T Builders Power Wheels race as he was chased across the line by Evan Dixon, Racelyn Romesburg, Jackson Keller and Delanie Scott in the top five.
