Corey Zeitner takes Malvern Bank Late Model finale at Adams County Speedway

CORNING, Ia. — The 2023 Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series came to an end with Saturday’s final round taking to the Adams County Speedway.
The big half-mile at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Corning, Iowa was the sight of the 23rd and final race of the season for the West Series. It was a border battle as drivers from Iowa and Nebraska dueled it out in Corning for the inaugural running of the Pumpkin Dash.
Kyle Berck was the fastest in qualifying as the 7-Time Series Champion clocked in at 19.595 seconds. The three heat races on the night were won by JC Wyman, Charlie McKenna and Josh Leonard.

When it was time for the 30-lap championship feature, 8-Time Adams County Speedway Track Champion Chris Spieker started from pole position with Wyman to his outside. Spieker was quick to take the early race lead while Justin Zeitner, who was second in points, made his way to second early.
On lap six, Zeitner made the move on Spieker for the lead as he slid up in turn two. The two made contact which sent Spieker to the infield before a caution came out. Spieker would continue on and would battle back to finish 13th.

Things went south big in a hurry for Justin Zeitner. The Malvern, Iowa driver was in a comfortable lead before a mechanical failure sidelined him. He would finish 22nd which would all but wrap up the season championship for Tad Pospisil.

When racing resumed, Corey Zeitner led with Bill Leighton Jr. keeping up the pressure from the second spot. The battle between them for the lead got intense as the duo would navigate lapped traffic in the closing laps. All the while, Zeitner was able to fend off Leighton at every turn.
A caution for a spin in turn three set up a 7-lap dash to the finish. Zeitner would hit his marks and keep his distance from Leighton. Zeitner would run out the laps and picked up his first win on the West Series in 2023 and his second of the season after he won with the East Series back in May. Zeitner got to also smash a pumpkin in victory lane for being the the first running of the Pumpkin Dash.

Leighton would come home second, and Tad Pospisil finished third, thus sealing up his fourth career Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series championship. JC Wyman was fourth, and Kyle Berck rounded out the top five.

Another exciting season with the Malvern Bank Super Late Models West Series is officially in the history books. All that remains is the championship weekend for the Haulin’ with Hoker Trucking Super Late Models East Series. The third different series champion will be determined October 13th-14th at the Mason City Motor Speedway in Mason City, Iowa.

Jeff James in Modifieds,  Matt Andrews in B-Mods, Luke Ramsey in Stock Cars who earned $2,000, Tyson Overton in Hobby Stocks, and Zander Steiner in Compacts were also victorious.
