Johnson and Hibner share USRA Modified glory at I-35
WINSTON, Mo. — One hundred twenty (120) cars checked in for O'Reilly Auto Parts Night with make-up features from Scobee Powerline Night. Three drivers doubled up on the night, while other classes split feature winners. Bonus money was available for mystery spots courtesy of Generational Buildings and Team Spray Foam. ASF Racing donated money to the Sport Compact and Junior Sport Compact features in memory of Amber Gann.
Adam Dunwoodie got the night started picking up his 14th E-Mod victory and followed it up later with his 15th victory in the second feature of the night. In the make-up feature, Dunwoodie would battle Blake Hayes for the win before eventually pulling away. Hayes would fall into a battle with Michael Hascall, as Hayes would finish second and Hascall third. Tony Layne would pick up another top five finish in fourth followed by Matthew Lance in fifth. In the second feature, Dunwoodie would battle with Michael Hascall for the win, with Hascall finishing second. Tony Layne would improve his finish by one position and finish third. Kenny Reed would gain six spots to finish fourth and Matthew Lance would gain 15 spots for another fifth-place finish.
In the Pure Stock make-up feature, Jeffery Sears and Jakub Hisel would pull away with Hisel putting the pressure on Sears for the win. Sears would go on to pick up his 11th feature win of the season as Hisel would get sideways and make contact with a tractor tire but had enough of a gap that he would still finish second. Blaine Nolker would have a good run as he battled upfront finishing third, followed by rookie Carter Johnson and Devin Baker who would also have good runs and finish fourth and fifth. In the second feature, it looked like it was going to be a mirror image of the first as Sears and Hisel would again go to battle. Hisel would eventually take the lead before Sears would pull off with mechanical issues. Hisel would go on to pick up his third feature win of the season and third of the last four races. Rocky McLaughlin and Travis Cavin would both have hard charging runs as McLaughlin would start 13th and finish 2nd, and Cavin started 20th and finished 3rd. Ava Dixon and Johnnie Price would each run in the top 5 for much of the race finishing fourth and fifth.
The Midwest Limited Late Models were one of two classes only running a single feature with Tommy Cordray picking up his third win of the season as he dedicated his trip to McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane to his father who has been battling some health issues as of late. Houston Johnson would put the pressure on but finish second, followed by Paul Glendenning who battled for the race lead early on in third. Jake Morris and Michael King would round out the field in fourth and fifth.
The other single feature class for the night would be the Vintage Open, with Mike Lefholz picking up his third feature win of the season. Ron Lefholz would finish second and Lonnie Farley would settle for third due to mechanical issues towards the end of the race after battling early for the win.
In the USRA B-Mods, Tyler Cadwallader would be the second driver to go two-for-two on the night winning both features. Early in the make-up feature, Cadwallader would battle with Brayden Bennett before Bennett retired with mechanical issues. Cadwallader would go on to pick up his seventh feature win. Colin Pierce would have a good run in his return to I-35 Speedway as he finished second. Dakota Girard would have an up-and-down night as he battled for the win early on, fell back in the field, then battled back for a third-place finish. Aaron Marrant would be behind the wheel of the 57 Motorsports Team as he finished fourth with Darrion McLaughlin having a good run finishing fifth. Cadwallader would cap off his night in the second feature, picking up his second win of the night and eighth overall, this time with Aaron Marrant in second, Colin Pierce third, Darrion McLaughlin fourth and Dakota Girard in fifth.
In the Medieval USRA Stock Car make-up feature, Doug Keller would beat Nic Hanes to the line by 0.046 seconds as he picked up his fourth win of the season. Hanes would finish second in his first top two finish of the night. Kristchon Hisel had a good run in his return finishing third, followed by Brad Derry in fourth and Mason Beck in fifth. In the second feature, Nic Hanes gained the lead from Jeff Dixon by 0.005 right before a caution came out and would hold on to pick up his seventh feature win of the season. Jeff Dixon would finish second, followed by good runs from Mason Beck in third, Brandon Dixon in fourth and Doug Keller in fifth.
In the first USRA Modified feature, Tyler Hibner and Houston Johnson would battle for the win with Hibner picking up his 13th feature win of the season. Johnson would hold on for a second place finish. Lee Hibner, Tyler Grooms and Richard Layne would complete the top five. In a role reversal second feature, Houston Johson would take the win and make a trip to McCarthy Auto Group Victory Lane with Tyler Hiber finishing second. The duo of victors would be followed by Lee Hibner in third, Preston Dawson in fourth and Richard Layne in fifth.
In the Sport Compact make-up feature, Alvin Cooney would pick up his seventh feature win of the season at I-35 Speedway. Coming to the checkered flag, Cooney would have to hold off Brad Mick, Harold Robb Jr and Elijiah Hoyt who finished second, third and fourth. Jeremy Sims would have a good run and finished fifth. In the second feature, Brad Mick would pick up his 12th feature win of the season after a battle with Harold Robb Jr, who would finish second. Alvin Cooney would start 11th and finish 3rd, with Jonnathon Hartman in fourth and Jeremy Sims would get his second fifth place finish of the night.
In the Junior Sport Compacts, Grant Sheetz would pick up two feature wins on the night. In both features, Payton Hanes would finish second, with Sydni McLaughlin finishing third in the first feature, Maddy Barr fourth and Landry Cooney fifth. In the second feature, Autumn Manley would finish third, followed by Maddy Barr and Katelynn Flemming.
